Natalia & Emanuel’s magestic Cape Town wedding ~ 24.3.12

Natalia & Emanuel had put a lot of thought and planning into their special day ~ and the results were there for everyone to see.  We had all met together a couple of times prior to the day, so were all on the same page!  However, I was to be blown away by everything this amazing bride and groom had planned for their family & friends.  Natalia was dressing at her parent’s fabulous home in Blouberg and as I entered through the front door, I was greeted by a flurry of activity as bridesmaids, flower girls, miniature bride & groom and family busied with getting ready for Natalia’s special day.  The dresses and outfits were amazing and photographer Warren Williams and I left the house for the ceremony venue, we were still unaware of what awaited us.

I remember reading that when Sarah Ferguson married Prince Andrew,  she had asked for flowers in the church that gave off a beautiful scent.  In all the years I have been filming weddings, I haven’t really walked into a church and been able to smell those gorgeous floral scents.  This day I did.  Flowers were everywhere – the church was a picture.  A right royal wedding indeed!    The ceremony was conducted by Archbishop Lawrence Henry, Father Roman Viveros and Father Jorge.  Each reading, musical interlude and prayer had been selected by the couple and the attention to detail really worked throughout this moving ceremony.

After the couple had left the church and had been greeted with showers of confetti from family and friends outside, the bridal party and close family walked down the road to the Bromwell.  Such a different location for great photographer Warren Williams and I to work with!  Stunning bride Natalia and her groom, Emanuel were only too happy to move amongst the eclectic rooms as Warren posed them this way and that.

Soon it was time to stop ‘playing’ and move on to the reception at the Portuguese Hall.  Oh my goodness – if I thought the church was festooned with flowers, then one glimpse inside the hall revealed more flowers than I have ever seen in one place.  The main table, which seated 28 was literally covered from floor to table top with beautiful blooms.  There were  vases groaning under the weight of magnificent table arrangements and the entire room was draped in soft white chiffon.  Guests had entered the area through gates with “royal” guards in their red jackets and black beefeater headgear.  The foyer to the hall had been draped in soft red velvet, with a feature oversized picture frame to one side.  Guests took turns to stand with the couple inside the frame for a well planned photo record of their attendance at this special wedding.

I could write an article about the food on its own!  Course after course of generous portions of full lobsters per guest, Steak Bernaisse, Chicken, etc. etc. Soon it was time for the first dance and once again the couple had organised a ballet performance before they came onto the floor with their retinue to perform their own special routine.

However, there was more to come!  The entrance foyer had now been transformed into a sweetie boutique – with every little fondant fancy and truffle you could imagine!  How could anyone still be hungry ???  However, the tables were just too enticing and soon everyone was filling their plates with a selection of these treats!

Natalia and Emanuel, you succeeded in creating a right royal affair,  you did it together and you and all your family & friends will always remember your special day !  X

Delair Graff hosts the wedding of Rayne & Michael ~ 20.3.12

We arrived at Auberge Clermont just after lunch to find Rayne, her family & some of her close friends preparing for the day and slipping into their beautiful outfits.  I was working for the first time with photographer Sandy Cossey (who had travelled from Port Elizabeth) for this wedding and her brother assisting – we had a good time working together and I hope to work with them again some time.

The groom (an American, marrying his South African sweetheart) and his groomsmen, who had dressed close by at Lavender Farm, arrived at Auberge Clermont and were waiting on the lawns, under the oaks for the bride to arrive for the signing of the Ketubah.  A private ceremony this, with just close family and friends in attendance, before we all moved on to Delaire Graff where the Chuppah and guests awaited.  Delaire Graff is a fantastic venue – great location, views, superb architecture (not to mention the food!!!).  One would have to try very hard to find a better reception room – curved seating, intimate lighting, great artwork and sculptures, attentive waiters… not to mention renowned chef, Christiaan Camphell creating his culinary delights for this couple and their guests.

Toasts and speeches (with slides showing the couple throughout their courtship) kept everyone entertained and soon it was time for the first dance.  Rayne and Michael are a perfect couple and we wish them a long and happy life together.  Watch out for the highlights from their wedding which I’ll show on this page….

Molenvliet wedding for Tasnim & Dylan ~ 17.3.12

We had been booked to film Tasnim & Dylan’s wedding by Lize-mari of Absolute Weddings, so we knew that the girls from this fabulous event company would pull out all the stops to make this couple’s day one they would never forget.

Beautiful bride Tasnim was dressing with her girls in one of the cottages on the estate, with Dylan knocking on the door a couple of times as he searched for his toothbrush, belt., etc. etc.   Lots of giggling and ‘don’t look’ as these items were passed around the tiny opening in the door to him!

The ceremony area was stunning – lush lawns with views of the vineyards and mountains all around.  I was working with good friend and great photographer, Ryan Graham and you only needed one look at this stunning bridal couple to know that our results that day would be great!  The “Absolute” team had worked their usual ‘magic’ as guests meandered down the tree lined lane after the ceremony towards the ’street festival’ that had been prepared for them.  Live entertainment, smoking coals cooking all manner of mouth watering delights, coctails and much, much more!

Moving into the reception area later that evening, we were greeted by a splendid sight – the room had been dressed to perfection and everyone was looking forward to the further delights that were to come.  Some of the guests had already decided to don wigs and hats from the fun photo booth, so we knew we were in for a great evening!  So it was!

I’m really excited about the footage we captured on the day, so watch out for the video highlights that will be coming soon!

Franschhoek wedding for Nadia & Bjorn ~ 10.3.12

This was to be the third wedding I had filmed for the Kwak family, after we had filmed the weddings of  Bjorn’s brothers Iwan to Liezl and Natasha to Mark over the past few years.  We were really looking forward to meeting up with the family again and were given such a warm welcome by them all!  ☺

Beautiful bride, Nadia was an easy subject to work with, as photographer Ian Mitchinson and I captured her final dressing preparations before we all left for the ceremony at the majestic white church in Franschhoek.  Even though the wind had picked up a little, everyone enjoyed the family shots on the front lawns of the church, before Ian and I drove away with the couple to take some riveting shots in and around the gorgeous town of Franschhoek.   The main street, the monument and a rustic tumble down cottage were some of our locations before we made our way back to the reception venue of Le Franschhoek Hotel.  The programme for the evening read like lots of other wedding itineraries ~ however, there were surprises in store!  The best was when beautiful bride Nadia took hold of the microphone and serenaded her mesmerized groom!  Oh my goodness – what a voice!  For a moment I thought that I was perhaps filming the winner of X Factor!

As we were about to leave, I tried to persuade Mrs. Kwak to perhaps adopt an orphan, so that I could look forward to filming another wedding for this fabulous family!  Natasha sent me a photo the following week of their little girl – adorable!  Keep the photos coming!

Winelands wedding at Vrede en Lust for Samantha & Roderick ~ 5.3.12

There were clear blue skies overhead when we arrived at glorious Vrede en Lust to start capturing the day for beautiful bride Samantha and her groom, Roderick.  Photographer Stephan from Zara Zoo and I had an easy job that day ~ a lovely bride and bridesmaid and friendly family & friends.

Out on the lawns, guests were seated under parasols as they awaited the arrival of the bride.  The Reverend Kevin Needham officiated and led the couple through their vows against a stunning backdrop of vines and mountains.  Walking back down the aisle to Elvis Presley’s ‘The Wonder of You’ the bride, with her long dark hair held in place by her delicate tiara and wearing a perfectly fitted fishtail styled gown, moved towards the Manor House with her groom to sign the register.

One is really spoiled for choice for photo locations at Vrede en Lust and Stephan and I took the couple from location to location around the grounds to capture some great shots & footage.

The Reception awaited, with crips white tablecloths, long stemmed white orchids, fairy lights and chrystal chandeliers suspended from above  as the couple made their entrance.  Really interesting and fun speeches were followed by Samantha & Rodericks first dance, which was to Adele’s song ‘To Make you Feel my Love’ .  Half way through the dance, a confetti glitter bomb sent shards of sparkling glitter cascading around the bride & groom.  Brilliant!  Soon, just about every guest there had joined the couple on the dance floor ~ and so the party began!

Co-ordinated by Simoné of the Aleit Group, the whole day ran smoothly and it wasn’t just the happy couple who had the best memories of that warm day in March 2012…….
